Ready for 100

On March 6, 2016, the Cheltenham Township Environmental Advisory Council (EAC) discussed the Ready for 100 Movement with the Township's Public Works Committee. The  Ready for 100 campaign is a movement of the Sierra Club to transition to 100% clean, renewable energy in the United States by 2050.

The EAC asked the Public Works Committee to consider and recommend the Board of Commissioners adopt a resolution that would commit Cheltenham Township to developing an energy transition plan to help the Township transition to 100% clean, renewable electricity by 2030 and 100% clean, renewable energy across all sectors, including transportation by 2050.

While other municipalities in Montgomery County, like Abington Township, are considering similar Ready for 100 movement resolutions, Cheltenham Township could be the first in Montgomery County to make this commitment. Other municipalities, such as Phoenixville, West Chester and Downingtown, have passed similar resolutions. They are working together to develop a transition plan, with the goal of reducing the cost of developing, and eventually implementing, the transition plan to achieve the renewable energy goals that includes interim milestones, strategies, financial impacts, equity metrics and potential financing mechanisms.
