Tools from the 18-19th Century

Tools encompass the period from the late 1700s to the late 1900s. Of special note is the operable mortise and tenon machine. This device was used extensively for centuries into the 1800s in the furniture and building industries. This type of construction was used in all the Wall House additions, and examples are on view throughout the entire house.

Tools and artifacts from the Colonial days include a wooden water pipe; wagon jacks; shovels; two-man saws; shoemaker, carpenter and watchmaker tools; an apple press and a grape press; ice picks; saws and tongs; and farm implements. The majority of the collection was due to the generosity of William Kessler.
