Animal Bites
In Montgomery County it is mandatory that any person bit, or any person who has knowledge that an animal has bitten or injured anyone immediately report this incident to local authorities or the Montgomery County Health Dept. Such information should be:
  • Where the animal is being kept
  • Who was bitten or injured
  • Who the owner is
  • Where the person bitten was treated

To report an animal bite or injury contact the Cheltenham Police Dept. immediately or at the earliest practical time at (215) 885-1600

In addition you must notify the Montgomery County Health Dept. if your pet or any animal in your custody or control has:
  • Been bitten, scratched or otherwise injured by or been exposed to the saliva of an animal suspected to be infected with rabies,
  • Has been bitten or scratched by, or been exposed to the saliva of a wild carnivorous mammal or bat,
  • Has been bitten or scratched by, or exposed to the saliva of, an animal which is not at the time effectively vaccinated against rabies,
  • Has received a bite or scratch or other wound of unknown origin
