Safety minded neighbors help create safe neighborhoods. That concept underlies the formation of our Town Watch Program.

Town Watch volunteers serve as trained “eyes and ears” for the Police Department. They routinely patrol their neighborhood streets keeping alert for suspicious activity. Our Town Watch volunteers do not confront suspects; instead, they are asked to immediately report the suspicious activity to Township Police via cellular phones. We currently have one active Town Watch group in operation covering Melrose/Elkins Park West.

All of our town watch members receive training in safe effective patrol procedures and observation techniques.

The Cheltenham Police Community Policing Unit fully supports Town Watch groups and can help neighbors interested in forming a new Town Watch group. Even without a Town Watch, all residents can help improve security in our community by becoming an alert neighbor. No one knows your street or your neighborhood, better than you and your fellow neighbors. The Cheltenham Police encourage all residents to report any suspicious activity to the Police Department by dialing 9-1-1. Callers can even remain anonymous. Simply relay your information to the Police Dispatcher and our Officers will follow up on your call. The Police need the public’s help and support, so together we can ensure that our community remains a great place to live and work. If you are interested in forming a new Town Watch Chapter, please contact the Community Response Unit @ 215 885-1600 ext. 466.
