The Cheltenham Police Department has established the position of Police School Liaison Officer to help in bridging the gap that often exists between schools and local law enforcement. This position is responsible for the following areas:
  • Reducing and preventing crime in our local schools
  • Establishing a positive rapport between the students and the Cheltenham Police Department
  • Taking a proactive approach to divert Cheltenham’s youth from the criminal justice system
  • Establishing and maintaining communication between the school community, parents, and the police
  • Identifying potential crimes or disorder problems within the schools and advise and assist in prevention strategies
  • Improving local school community access to police services

The School Liaison Officer spends time at three schools within the Township: Cedarbrook Middle School, Cheltenham High School, and Bishop McDevitt High School. Our goal is to develop a positive relationship with the students and faculty at these schools. The School Liaison Officer is approachable to students and is constantly watchful for any problems big or small that may develop within these schools. The School Liaison Officer works closely with School Administrators to improve safety within these schools.   Our School Liaison Officer is Jacalyn Hinchee of the Cheltenham Township Community Policing Unit. If you have any questions about this program please contact Officer Hinchee @ 215 885-1600 ext 483.
