Nature's Recyclers
Free!!! * June 19 * 10:30 a.m. to Noon
Preregistration required. Class size limited to 15. No walk-ins, please.
Adults and students are invited to this free program jointly hosted by the Tookany-Tacony Frankford Watershed Partnership and Cheltenham Township. We will meet in the parking lot near the Central Ave. end of the Tookany Creek Parkway in Cheltenham Township. We’ll walk along the Creek to explore how soil organisms recycle materials, then relate the process to human recycling/composting – the new improved approach. We’ll look at what is truly compostable, and what is not. Then, what to do with the compost we have helped create. San Francisco, and other large cities, collect compostable materials in separate cans along with trash and recycling (i.e. 3 cans). Some inner city teachers are composting right in their classrooms with red worms. Cheltenham composts leaves and lawn clippings. To do better, we will take a closer look at 2 important concepts: “Cradle to Grave”, and “Cradle to Cradle”. See, feel, and examine examples of these and discuss how to make these 2 concepts part of your everyday life.
