a Grateful Family and a new tradition

          The Hollo Family and EMS

On October 24th 2012 Matt Hollo was struck by a vehicle while running as a member of the Cheltenham High School Cross Country Team. Matt was severely injured as a result of the accident. Cheltenham Township police officer Chris Gallagher was teaching a DARE class at Glenside Elementary School and immediately responded, as the accident was nearby. In addition, paramedics Andy Swartz and James Randolph responded with the ambulance, and Assistant Chief Mike Smaltini responded in his vehicle. Matt was transported to Einstein Trauma Center in critical condition. Over time and with much work, Matt completely recovered and is now a college sophomore. The Hollo family has always believed that the actions by Officer Gallagher and the EMS team members were critical in saving Matt’s life.

Each year (since 2012) the Hollo family has dropped off food for EMS crew members as their way of saying thank you. This year they insisted on feeding everyone at the Township's bi-monthly EMS meeting. Mrs. Hollo gave a short talk to everyone again expressing her thanks for the role they played in assisting her son on October 24, 2012.
