IMPORTANT COVID-19 OPERATIONS UPDATE

Cheltenham Township Tax and Finance Offices are open to the public starting Monday, June 29, 2020. Hours of operation are Monday through Friday 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

** Please note that the Tax Office has moved across the driveway to the former District Court Building on the Cheltenham Township Administrative Campus located at 8230 Old York Road, Elkins Park, PA 19027. Parking is conveniently located in front of the building.**

Tax payments will continue to be accepted by mailed-in check or online payment. Tax Payments can be mailed, attention "Tax Office" and all other payments can be paid to the attention of the "Finance Department" at Cheltenham Township | 8230 Old York Road | Elkins Park, PA 19027. Both departments can be reached via telephone at 215.887.1000.

Tax Deadline Extension Information:
In an effort to respond to the health and economic effects of COVID-19, the Cheltenham Township Board of Commissioners, in cooperation with Montgomery County and the Cheltenham Township Finance Officer, announced that local tax deadlines for Cheltenham Township will be extended.  The Township and County Real Estate Tax deadlines are extended for 60 days and Business Privilege and Mercantile Tax deadlines are extended for 90 days.
  • The deadline to pay County and Township Real Estate Taxes and receive the 2% discount is now June 3. This is a 60-day extension from the prior April 3 date printed on the tax bill. 
  • All County and Township Real Estate Taxes received on or after August 4 will be subject to a 10% penalty. This is a 60-day extension from the June 4 date printed on the Real Estate Tax bill. 
  • The deadline to file and pay the 2019-2020 Mercantile and Business Privilege Tax has been extended to July 15. This is a 90-day extension from the April 15 date currently printed on the tax return forms. Payments made after July 15 will have penalties and interest accrued for each month after July 15.

2020 Budget

No Discount on User Fees on Tax Bills

Discounts are NOT be available for users fees included on the real estate tax bill, including but not limited to refuse fees, sanitary sewer fees and excess water fees.  The tax bill format will permit discounts for the real estate tax portion of the bill only. (Resolution No. 33-11)

Property owners whose mortgage provider handles their tax and fee payments should contact their provider to ensure proper payment and credit.

Liens and Delinquent Taxes and Fees

Cheltenham Township has hired Portnoff Law Associates (866-211-9466) to collect delinquent real estate taxes starting with taxes due in 2011, per Ordinance 2229-11. Identify the property location as Cheltenham Township.

The Montgomery County Tax Claim Bureau (610-278-1217) collects delinquent taxes due in years prior to 2011.

All delinquent SEWER/REFUSE FEES are collected by the Cheltenham Accounting Department (215-887-6200, ext. 148). Provide your first and last name, the property address and your contact number when calling. Please note, interest and penalty accrue daily on delinquent SEWER/REFUSE FEES and may ultimately lead to Sheriff Sale of the property, even if real estate tax payments are current.

The Montgomery County Prothonotary’s Office offers a “Civil Viewer” to find liens on properties in the county as long as you can provide a parcel ID. You can find parcel IDs from a property address through the Montgomery County Property Records Search.
