New Tree Donation program played a part in receiving the Tree City USA Growth Award for 2021.
Cheltenham Township not only received its 23rd annual designation as a Tree City USA by the Arbor Day Foundation, but also received the Growth Award, honoring its commitment to effective urban forest management.
A Growth Award is bestowed to a community alongside their Tree City USA recognition for demonstrating environmental improvement and a higher level of tree care. The Growth Award recognized major milestones and annual activities in five categories on a point based system to build sustainable community forestry programs over the long term such as: building a team, measuring trees and forest, planning the work, performing the work, and building the community framework.
The initiatives that helped Cheltenham to receive this award for 2021 were contracting with consulting Arborist John Hosbach to evaluate the health of Township trees, and the startup of our new Tree Donation Program, which resulted in the planting of 24 trees in its inaugural year to help offset the loss of trees which have had to be removed due to disease, invasive pests, or storm damage.
You, the residents or families of our Cheltenham community, share in this designation with us! You can continue this good work in our Township by donating a tree to be planted this fall. Trees can be planted to commemorate a loved one or event, or just to add a tree back to our environment. Please fill out our Tree Donation Application or email [email protected] with any questions.
