Township Announces Green Phase Operational Updates

Additional Township facilities and services will begin opening to the public beginning Monday, June 29, 2020 as Montgomery County moves into the Green Phase on June 26, 2020.
 
The Governor’s has announced that Montgomery County will move from the “Yellow” to the “Green” Phase as of 12:01 a.m. on Friday, June 26, 2020. While essential services have and will continue to operate throughout the pandemic, additional facilities and services will begin opening to the public beginning Monday, June 29, 2020.

Please note that all persons utilizing Township parks and recreation facilities must maintain appropriate physical distances of at least six feet and practice proper hygiene to prevent the spread of infectious diseases. In addition, any persons permitted to enter Township building facilities shall also wear face masks, maintain social distancing and practice proper hygiene to prevent the spread of infectious diseases.

Please stay safe and remain diligent in practicing proper pandemic safety techniques so we can continue to remain open and moving forward in a positive direction. Thank you for your continued patience and cooperation.

Police Department

The lobby of the Police Administration Building continues to be open 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Township Administration Building

The Township Administration Building continues to remain closed to the public. Call or email departments to arrange virtual or in person meetings, where appropriate.

All exchanges of payments, permits, forms, applications, etc. will occur by mail, email or via the drop box located in the vestibule of the Township Administration Building. Check or credit card transactions are preferred.

All public meetings of Cheltenham Township Boards, Commissions Councils and/or Committees will be cancelled or held virtually, as appropriate.

Tax Office

The Tax Office, which has moved to the former District Court Building in the Township Administration Campus at 8230 Old York Road, Elkins Park, will resume normal business hours (Monday through Friday: 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.) on Monday, June 29, 2020. A drop box will remain available outside the Tax Office and occupancy of the lobby will be limited to two persons.

Reminder: Penalties will be assessed on all unpaid County and Township on or after August 4, 2020. The deadline for 2019-2020 Mercantile and Business Privilege Taxes has been extended until July 15, 2020.

Public Works Facility

Starting Monday, June 29, 2020, the following services will be available at the Cheltenham Township Public Works Facility during the following hours: 7:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. (8101 Old York Road, Elkins Park):

  • Payments for Daily Landscaper Permits
  • Payments for Leaf and Garden Debris Bags
  • Payments for Bulk Drop Off of Tires, Large Furniture, Appliances and Metals
  • Payments for Bulk Item and Brush Collections

Check, cash or credit card payments will be accepted at the Public Works Facility (Please utilize the front entrance of the Building on Old York Road).

Bulk item and recycling materials drop off will be accepted Monday through Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. and Saturdays, 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the Public Works Facility, unless affected by a holiday.

Curbside Bulk Item and Brush Collections will resume on Friday, July 10, 2020. Calls to pay for and schedule pickups will be accepted beginning Monday, July 6. To schedule a pickup, call (215) 635-4600.

The Waverly Road Compost Facility (located on Waverly Road between Church Road and Cheltenham Avenue in Laverock) will be open for residents to drop off bagged leaves and/or cardboard boxes Monday through Friday 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. and on Saturdays 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., unless affected by a holiday.

Any changes or additions will be posted on Cheltenham Township’s Public Works Department webpages.

Parks & Recreation Activities and Facilities

Most park facilities are open on a limited basis. All in-person, in-building parks and recreation programming is cancelled for the summer. Township pools and community centers are closed and summer day camps are canceled for the season. Virtual programs and some outdoor activities will be held in the green phase. Organized Sports on Sports Courts (Basketball, Tennis, Pickelball)

Open for regular practices, clinics and games with minimum 6’+ minimum physical distancing required for non-game participants. All permit holders will be required to provide a written plan as to how they will adhere to and enforce current PA Dept. of Health and CDC guidelines.

Unorganized Sports on Sports Courts (Basketball, Tennis, Pickelball, Volleyball, including Wall Park Skate Park)

Open for use; maximum of 25 people, including spectators per court or in the skate park with minimum 6’+ minimum physical distancing required for non-game participants.

Playgrounds

Open with 6’+ minimum physical distance required. Note: playground equipment will not be disinfected by the Township.

Exercise Equipment

Open with 6’+ minimum physical distance required. Note: playground equipment will not be disinfected by the Township.

Pavilions

Open with 6’+ minimum physical distance required.

Curtis Dog Park

Open with 6’+ minimum physical distance required. Limit 25 persons at one time.

Glenside Pool and Conklin Pool

Closed

Public Restrooms

Closed, except during sports organization-sponsored activities. Sports organizations will be responsible for cleaning and disinfecting restroom facilities.

Snack/Concession Stands

Organizations may open with a written plan as to how they will adhere to and enforce current PA Dept. of Health and CDC guidelines.

Recreation Programs

Allow with restrictions in outdoor venues only where 6’+ minimum physical distance can be maintained. No more than 100 per event, if event space allows for appropriate physical distancing.

La Mott and Rowland Community Centers

Closed

Curtis and Glenside Memorial Halls

Open with written plan from lessees on how they will adhere to and enforce current PA Dept. of Health and CDC guidelines.


Cheltenham Township Library System

Libraries remain closed to the public. The following library services are now available at Cheltenham Township Libraries. To keep up-to-date on Library services and activities, follow it on Facebook or visit its Website.

  • The Library is open for service—virtually! Download e-books, movies, television, and magazines from the Library's website. Check the library event calendar for virtual programming, including live, interactive Zoom storytimes and other programs.
  • The Library has begun contact-less curbside pickups for items placed on hold. Just request an item online—when you receive notification that your hold is ready, you can book an appointment online or on the phone to pick up your materials! Pickup at Glenside and Elkins Park libraries until further notice; East Cheltenham and La Mott customers must choose one of the other locations to pick up their books.   • Grab ‘N Go Books for youth birth to twelve begins Monday, June 29. Families may choose a collection of five books based on theme and age. Check the Library website for further information.
  • Summer Learning Club 2020 is now open, and runs until August 22, 2020. Track reading and activities online to earn badges and prizes. Ages birth to adult. Visit  https://cheltenhamlibraries.org/summer-learning-2020/ for details.
