Five La Mott youngsters were honored for their response to a neighborhood house fire.
The quick actions of five La Mott community youngsters in response to a neighborhood house fire earned official praise and recognition from their state representatives and the Cheltenham Township Board of Commissioners during a recent board meeting at Curtis Hall in Wyncote. Aileah Greenwood (front, left) first spotted the fire and alerted her sister Aiyana (front, second from left) and friends Aaron Harris (front, second from right), Khasan Bowleg (front, right) and Khalil Leach (not shown). While Harris called 911, Bowleg and Leach banged on the door to alert the occupant who had been unaware of the fire. Their prompt actions helped the fire company limit the property damage and may have saved a life. Cheltenham Township Fire Marshal Joseph W. O’Neill (left) and State Representative Steve McCarter (right) joined Cheltenham Commissioners (left to right) Drew Sharkey, Irv Brockington, Baron B. Holland, Daniel B. Norris, Morton J. Simon, Jr., and Brad M. Pransky in presenting the youngsters with official township resolutions, Pennsylvania house and senate citations, and custom-engraved pens donated by Shaw Pens.
