Annual Fund-Raiser for the
Richard Wall House Museum

Market Day 2008

Potential treasures await at the 25th Annual Market Day on Saturday, September 6, on the grounds of the Richard Wall House Museum, located off Church Road, 1/10 mile west of Old York Road in Elkins Park.  The event, which will run from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., will feature over 50 vendors of collectibles, antiques and memorabilia.  Admission and parking are free; refreshments will be available.

In addition to great shopping, Market Day provides a glimpse into the past with free tours of the historic Richard Wall House Museum. With sections dated to 1682 and listing on state and national historic registers, the museum features four floors of extraordinary exhibits, a springhouse and a carriage house.  The museum’s standing displays include a Roaring 20s room, a Colonial bedroom, an extensive 18th to 19th century tool display and a five-foot tall dollhouse with working electricity from the early 1900s.  A special exhibit, “The Way It Was,” will depict tableaus of various moments in American history.

At noon the Philadelphia regional director of the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development will honor the Township for earning a Preserve America designation and will present a $20,000 grant to help document the historic clothing and textile collection at the museum. Afterwards, free contra dancing and live music will be available from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. in front of the visitors’ center.

All proceeds benefit the restoration and maintenance of the museum.  For more information or to serve as a dealer for this Cheltenham Township Historical Commission fund-raiser, call 215-887-9159.
