Remember the first line of defense against the effects of a disaster is personal preparedness. During an emergency the government and other agencies may not be able to meet your needs. It is important for all citizens to make individual emergency plans and prepare for their care and safety in an emergency.

 

 

The Cheltenham Township Emergency Medical Service (EMS) is a public service system that includes Paramedic/EMT-staffed ambulances that are dispatched 24 hours day through the Montgomery County enhanced 9-1-1 communications system. EMS responds to over 3,000 requests for emergency medical assistance annually. Cheltenham Township EMS has been serving since 1982.

 

 

Annual Subscription Program
Since 1982, the Cheltenham Township Emergency Medical Service has been the only ambulance service approved by the Board of Commissioners to serve the residents and visitors of our community. In 2008 EMS continued upgrading its equipment with the purchase of a new ambulance and additional specialized, lifesaving equipment.

Once a year EMS asks residents to support their lifesaving services and vital upgrades through a subscription. Subscribers eliminate unnecessary expenses, such as deductibles and co-pay obligations, for EMS service that year. EMS will bill Medicare and insurance companies, however, to keep your costs down. The average emergency ambulance call costs more than $700. While EMS does not provide transportation for routine medical or doctor’s visits, your subscription will save you money on any emergency calls your family might need in 2009. Your subscription and contribution will also help ensure that EMS will continue to be a leader in emergency care.

The 2009 subscription rates are $35 for a family, $25 for an individual, $15 for one senior (age 65 or over) and $30 for a senior couple. We also welcome your tax-deductible contributions, which can be included on your remittance card. When completing the card, please include all persons living in your home since only listed residents will be covered by your subscription.


 Special Needs Registry
Bucks, Chester and Montgomery Counties have jointly developed a registry to allow citizens with special needs and their associates an opportunity to provide information to emergency response agencies, so emergency responders can better plan to serve them in a disaster or other emergencies. For this project, a special needs individual is someone who cannot receive, understand or act upon emergency protective orders.

Registry information will not be available to the public. The information will be held securely and only accessed for the purpose of emergency response and planning.
